Ettehade Jomhourikhahane Iran (EJI) calls for help to victims of the Bam earthquake

May we gather to help our earthquake victims in Bam;

WHEN THE CALAMITY OF TIME AFFLICTS ONE LIMB
THE OTHER LIMBS CANNOT REMAIN AT REST
(saadi, Iranian 7th Century Poet)

December 27, 2003

Tens of thousands of our fellow countrymen and women are devastated by the horrible Bam Earthquake. Injured and homeless they are facing massive emotional, physical and social problems. People all over the world have heard the cry for help. Lives have been destroyed. Yet no words can ever describe the magnitude of this devastating calamity. Such a massive destruction calls for help from every corner of this world. The facilities inside the country cannot respond to the urgent need of people.

Our hearts and thoughts at EJI (Unity for a Democratic and Secular Republic in Iran) are with our people in Bam. Our deep condolences to all those who lost loved ones and are struggling to survive in such terrible conditions. Each one of us will compassionately help as much as we can. We heard about the quick establishment of sites by the people to help the people; this brought hope to our hearts. The Takhti site, in the name of our national athlete hero, is just one of them. We proudly appreciate the efforts that are pouring in from different organizations from all over the country and from around the world, and from countries that pledged to help even before the request was made.

Mrs. Shirin Ebadi has set up a banking account specially for helping victims of this catastrophe. All EJI activists, members, and all those concerned are requested to help generously. Helps such as clothing and non-perishable food can be donated to any reliable international organizations that are working in Iran and/or have connections with relief efforts.

The account under Ms. Ebadi's supervision is:

Account # 8080
Bank Saderat Iran,
Meydan-e Kalantari, AsadAbadi Street, Tehran
(Branch code # 1238) Tehran, Iran
