Hamgami’s Letter to the Prime Minister of Canada Protesting His Joint Statement with the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi on Iran’s Three Islands

Your Excellency, Mr. Mark Carney,
Prime Minister of Canada,

The joint statement issued by you and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi constitutes a clear violation of international law, an interference in Iran’s internal affairs and an encroachment upon our country’s territorial integrity. The baseless claim regarding the “occupation of the three islands” reveals either a profound ignorance of the history of the Persian Gulf or the bitter reality that the principles of international law have been sacrificed for the sake of short-term economic interests. The islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa have always been – and will remain – an inseparable and permanent part of Iranian territory.

You have put forward these claims at a time when Iran has been subjected to aggression by Israel and the United States on three separate occasions, vital infrastructure has been damaged and 165 innocent children have lost their lives in attacks carried out by the U.S. military. While these two countries continue to threaten Iran daily with destruction and further bombardment, your alignment with the UAE’s hollow claims serves only to fuel the flames of war and instability in the region.

We expect that, just as you adopted a rational and peace-oriented stance regarding the attacks and aggression against Iran, you will likewise choose the path of reason and justice in this matter.
